What you should know about Community Connections
Community Connections provides services for children, young people and adults with disabilities and their families. We offer support to people who have a disability with the aim of providing them with the natural supports necessary to enable them to live in their own home, to connect with their community and to enjoy an independent, fulfilling life. I have been on the CCSLT Board for three years and consider it a privilege to work with such a dedicated group of board members, management and staff. I have been on the board of CCSLT since June 2015 and have been appointed as finance director.
I first got involved with the Community Connections Board about three or four years ago because I am passionate about disability issues and wanted to make a difference to the lives of others in the Wellington community. I work for CCS Disability Action as a Disabled Staff Coordinator for the Central Region which covers the Taranaki, Kapiti and Wellington areas. I have been involved in Supported Employment for the last five years, as both a staff and board member of Emerge Supported Employment. I have experience in the NGO and government sector, and look forward to bringing this knowledge together to support the strategic direction of this fantastic organisation.
Jo has worked in the disability sector for over 25 years and joined Community Connections in 2007. Dee joined Community Connections in 2011 and oversees Professional Development. Maureen’s role as Service Manager is to support the Hutt Coordinators to always deliver great support. Currently he is studying psychology at the New Zealand Open Polytechnic and Oriental Psychology with the Art of Health Sydney . Megan joined our team at Community Connections in 2008 working as a support worker for 6 years.
He started work as a Support Worker in Dunedin, where he developed a passion for supporting people with disabilities to achieve their goals. Josh has worked in the disability sector since 2005 with varying roles within residential services prior to joining the Community Connections team in March 2011. Cliff started with Community Connections in March 2015 in the Wellington office, rejoining the Care Sector after an absence of some 12 years, due to living in France.
Mele started with Community Connections in June 2016 as a support worker before taking on the coordinator role at the start of 2017. Prior to this, Mele worked for Quitline for 11 years in different roles and as a budget advisor for 4 years in the Porirua region. Mele enjoys working for Community Connections because of the values it holds, and becuase of the way that we work to empower of the people we support to achieve their own goals, and quality of life. As the coordinator for the Tawa region her aim is to ensure the service runs effectively for all the people we support.
Rich is passionate about empowering the people we support to live the lives they choose. Prior to working for Community Connections, Christine had worked for DEALS as a Community Support Worker since 2001. It was in this role that I found that I wanted to be more focussed on better outcomes for people, hence becoming a support worker with Community Connections, and then developing into the coordination role later on. The main reason Brenda sought a job with Community Connections was due to our approach providing choices and Independence, assisting people to live the life that they choose
