PND Wellington was established in 1989 to fill a particular need in the community for women experiencing post or ante natal distress PND . Whilst there are groups established to support women through their pregnancies and on to becoming a new mother, women with post natal distress often have no means of seeking help, except their doctor midwife. The group was started by a midwife and a former sufferer of PND who recognized the need for a support group in the Wellington district. PND Wellington led to the formation of a National Association for PND PMHNZ perinatal Mental Health NZ was set up in February 2011. Objective Main objective is to provide support for women and their families who are experiencing distress depression during pregnancy, or after the birth of a baby.
Community liaison Coordinators available for training and talks to interested groups assistance to student’s research. Seminar Days held for volunteers and Health and Social Service professionals working with women and families, with a range of guest speakers presenting on topics and research pertaining to maternal mental health. Training Professional Development All telephone supporters have attended a comprehensive training course. Guest speakers may attend our member meetings to further our professional development and knowledge of maternal mental health

Due to a few Members leaving ND Wellington over the past few years we are actively seeking some fresh Members, both from individuals who have experienced ante and post natal distress either personally or through extended family and friends, and from health professionals and community organizations who labor with women and families and whanau who have experienced ND. A new mother might not recognize ND herself because she is weary and overwhelmed by life with a fresh baby.
Parent to Parent to Parent is an information and urge network for parents of babies and children needing notable care. Some women find that once the baby begins to sleep for longer periods, becomes less dependent and more interactive, they feel better. For me, the most helpful thing has been talking to other people about what I’m currently going through. Finding a person you trust to talk to about the way you are feeling can also begin to change things for the better.
Wellington City Mission Wellington City Mission offer a range of services to families, including home based parenting education and home making support, release individual counseling and family therapy, community resource agency information. Parent Aid for parent assist and family urge offer 24 hour telephone support, counseling, and an anger change group for women. Post Natal Psychosis Urge Group Offers support and information to women suffering from Post Natal Psychosis either during pregnancy or behind beginning of their baby.
I felt as though each day I had accomplished very trivial apart from get through the day and this was dismal to me.
